The aim of the Finnish model for leisure activities is to support well-being among children and young people by providing every child and adolescent with the opportunity to engage in a free and enjoyable hobby in connection to a school day. The range of leisure activities available is prepared based on the wishes of children and young people. In Pirkkala, the operations under the Finnish model for leisure activities are arranged under the project name Harrastava Pirkkala (Recreational Pirkkala). Currently, the leisure activities are organised with the state subsidy granted by the Ministry of Education and Culture. The goal is to establish the Finnish model as a permanent operating method within the municipality.
All 1st–9th grade pupils in basic education in Pirkkala can take part in the Harrastava Pirkkala activities. The low-threshold leisure activities can be accessed free of charge, and the aim is to provide children and young people with a diverse variety of hobbies. The activities provide the opportunity to learn about a variety of hobbies in the context of a school day. The activity instructors are professional adult instructors from local clubs and associations.
To register for the leisure activities, use the Hellewi system at: https://kuntapalvelut.fi/pirkkala/index.php?&l=en (side bar option Courses -> Harrastava Pirkkala)
The address above lists the hobbies by school. Registrations are open at all times so that you can get involved at any time, even in the middle of a school year. The additional details of the leisure activities list the contact information of the instructors or organisers as well as the activity locations.
